Here is the basic 101 on Feng Shui.
Feng Shui was practiced thousands of years ago by the ancient Chinese. It is only in the last 20 years that it has become known in the West. For some, this presented a perfect money-making opportunity -- so beware of marketing gimmicks out there that promises quick fix and get rich quick results.

What Is FENG SHUI?
[pronounced: foong shway or fung shway]:

Translates literally to "wind and water". Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese art of placement. The goal of Feng Shui is to achieve harmony, comfort, and balance, first in ones environment and then in one's life.

For thousands of years, the Chinese have sought to channel, harness, and harmonize environmental forces, such as wind and water, to improve the landscape and, ultimately, their lives. They have believed that, if they were ideally positioned within the universe, they could enhance the balance of nature and thus improve their fortunes; for them, poor Feng Shui portended imbalance and disaster.

Today, those in powerful positions do not take chances where Feng Shui is involved. Modern days home builders, hotels and casinos, decorators, restauranteurs, and international Conglomerates such Citibank, Chase Manhattan, HSBC Banks, Hyatt Hotels in Southeast Asia are counting on Feng Shui Masters for help.

Feng Shui in Real Estate Sales
The best time to look at the feng shui of a house is BEFORE you buy it. The energy or "qi" that exists in a house and how it interacts with the occupants will determine if the house has a good or bad Feng Shui. While it is possible to minimise the ill effects of a bad feng shui by using "cures" and enhancing the positive effects, BALANCE is very important in Feng Shui. To achieve Good Feng Shui, all elements must work in harmony with each other

Some Basic Concepts in Real Estate Feng Shui:
  • Avoid having a straight road leading directly to the home, The qi flowing toward you from the road is a posion arrow. Cure: Move your main door or plant a tree to block the offending road from view

  • Investigate your surrounding. It is vital to protect against "Shar Qi" (negative energy) that points at you from any sharp edges, neighbor's roofline or an oncoming elevated road. The cause of Shar Qi may not be immediately obvious.

  • DO NOT live at a dead end because Qi will stagnate in this location. CURE: Keep the ligths on the gate as well as behind the house throughout the night. This stimulats the presence of Yang energy and prevents hostile Qi from settling into your home.

  • TIP - SIGNS of SUCCESS
Look for signs of prosperity in the neighborhood. Investigate the history and background of people already living there. Usually an area with good feng shui will look prosperous. Gardens will be thriving, homes will be well maintained - there is an air of prosperity you can both feel and see.
